John Gerson CMG is a Visiting Professor at the Policy Institute at King’s College London.

Following a history degree at The University of Cambridge, John spent 30 years in the foreign service that included postings to China and Hong Kong, as well as acting as Margaret Thatcher’s interpreter and adviser on China. John also undertook a sabbatical as a visiting fellow at Princeton University, before spending a decade at BP as Group Political Adviser and Head of Government and Political Affairs.

Since retiring from BP John has served as a Non-Executive Director and consultant to British and foreign companies, and been a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Department of War Studies, King’s College London.
