Ridgeway Information is seeking to recruit a Mandarin Chinese language consultant to work in support of its nuclear non-proliferation research projects.

About us

Ridgeway is a London-based research & analysis company, supporting a range of leading UK and international organisations in the public, private and third sectors for the past couple of decades. Our clients include UN agencies (UN Women, UNESCO), the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), British Council, the European Union (EU), National History Museum, and others. We carry out policy, academic and commercial research mainly in four areas: (1) non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction; (2) international development; (3) due diligence; and (4) open source intelligence (OSINT).

About the Role

The Chinese language consultant will carry out research on nuclear non-proliferation issues using Chinese-language open sources under the guidance of Ridgeway’s core staff. With the line manager’s permission, it may be possible to work remotely.

All candidates must have a minimum of an undergraduate degree. Candidates, who may preferably be postgraduate students, must be able to translate technical documents accurately from Mandarin Chinese to English as well as being able to conduct independent online-based research of Chinese language sources.

No prior knowledge of non-proliferation issues is required; the consultant will be given training on relevant aspects of the project. The key attributes Ridgeway seeks in all its staff and consultants are a keen interest in international affairs, professionalism in the workplace, and the ability to carry out research to a fixed deadline with minimal direct supervision.

The successful candidate is to work two days per month from June 2025 (or ASAP) to June 2026. The pay rate is approximately £135 per day (giving a total of about £3,240 per annum). Funding is expected to extend the post for a further 12 months. Candidates must have permission to work in the UK by the start of their employment.

We would also like to encourage non-native speakers with excellent Chinese language skills to apply for this post.
